Eligibility for the Ph.D. Training Program in Space Life Sciences
To meet the two eligibility requirements for the combined program, applicants will need to meet the doctoral program requirements in one of the following degree areas: 1) Kinesiology; 2) Nuclear Engineering (Health Physics); 3) Nutrition 4)Genetics or 5) Medical Sciences. In addition, applicants will need to meet the specific requirements for a Certificate in Space Life Sciences.
Criteria for selection includes:
- United States Citizenship
- Completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an accredited university
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 total scale
- Acceptance into a Ph.D. program at Texas A&M University in one of the following disciplines,Genetics, Kinesiology, Nuclear Engineering (Health Physics), Nutrition, or MD/PhD in Medical Sciences.
For consideration into the program, a student applicant must have a strong interest in space life sciences and submit the following documents:
- Application for the Ph.D. Training Program in Space Life Sciences (Adobe Reader)
- Copy of the Texas A&M University graduate application
- Letters of recommendation (3 total)
- If the TAMU or HSC faculty mentor has been identified, submit a letter from the mentor explaining how you the student will be trained in space life sciences research and their plans for supporting you after the two years of financial support from the fellowship ends.
- Curriculum vitae or resume of the student
- Student essay (2 to 3 pages) describing potential research and career goals, and how the Ph.D. program in Space Life Sciences will help you achieve your goals.
- Copy of the students formal acceptance letter into graduate school from the TAMU or HSC Office of Admissions if already accepted.

The requirements to apply for the Ph.D. Training Program in Space Life Sciences as mentioned above are: 1) United States Citizenship; 2) a strong commitment to space life sciences; 3) a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an accredited university; and 4) a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 total scale. Those interested in participating in the training program can apply simultaneously to a Ph.D. doctoral program at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in either Genetics, Kinesiology, Health Physics, Nutrition or a M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the TAMU Health Sciences Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the training program. Acceptance into one of the doctoral programs mentioned above is required before a student is accepted into the training program.
